Men's squash dominates No. 31 Cardinals on Senior Night

LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 18 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team swept positions two through nine in straight sets en route to an 8-1 victory over no. 31 Wesleyan University on Senior Night Tuesday at the Bates Squash Center.

The match was Bates' first since Dec. 2 and also the Bobcats' last home contest of the season.

Wesleyan's Sean Choi defeated Bates junior Graham Bonnell (Southport, Conn.) in a five-set duel at the No. 1 position on the ladder to earn the Cardinals' lone point.

Bates junior Mahmoud Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) led eight Bobcats who swept their opponents with an 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 victory at the No. 2 position over Yahya Ladiwala.

Senior Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) downed Josh Lane in three sets at No. 3 and senior McLeod Abbott (Bronxville, N.Y.) did the same at No. 6 in their final home matches.

First-year Jesper Phillips (Moss, Norway, junior Garon Rothenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.), junior Benni McComish (Williamstown, Mass.), first-year Peter Koenigsbauer (Seattle, Wash.) and junior David Quintero (Santa Barbara, Calif.) all dispatched their opponents by 3-0 counts at four, five, seven, eight and nine, respectively.

Wesleyan (1-7) next plays at Bowdoin on Wednesday at 11:30am.

Bates (3-3) next plays at rival Williams Saturday at 2pm., then at rival Middlebury Sunday at 11am.
