Garcia-Bou paces men's golf at Bowdoin Invitational, finishing second overall

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Senior captain Andrew Garcia-Bou finished in second place out of 60 individuals after shooing a second-day score of 77 on Sunday at Brunswick Golf Club, leading the Bates men's golf team to sixth place out of 14 teams in the tournament, up from a tie for ninth place a year ago.

Garcia-Bou (Eastchester, N.Y.) recorded two birdies, five bogeys and one double-bogey in Sunday's second round, moving into sole possession of second place overall. Husson's Eric Dugas shot a second-day 72 to two strokes ahead of the Bates captain's two-day score of 152.

After Garcia-Bou, sophomore Preston Haugh (Alexandria, Va.) finished in a tie for 26th place at 161 with an 81 on Sunday. Senior Julien Lewin (Seattle, Wash.) fired a 78 to finish tied for 35th place overall (164), and senior James Stevens (North Kingstown, R.I.) shot back-to-back 83's to tie for 43rd place, rounding out team scoring.

Bates' two-day, four-man combined score of 643 tied with the University of New England for sixth place, three strokes ahead of Saint Anselm. Nichols won at 623.

The Bates men's and women's golf teams will host the Bates Invitational Sept. 14-15 at Martindale Country Club in Auburn, teeing off at 11am on Saturday.
