First-years lead the way for women's golf at Middlebury Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Four first-year players led the Bates women's golf team at the two-day Middlebury Invitational that concluded Sunday, with all four recording rounds under 100.

With the top four scores counting toward the team score on each day, Bates' score of 755 was good for 10th place among 11 teams, 110 strokes ahead of 11th-place Trinity and 44 behind ninth-place Vassar.

First-year Chloe Baylor (Lincoln, Neb.) led the team as she has all season with a two-day score of 172, an 86 each day, to tie for 37th place out of 66 players. First-year Amisha Kalra (Short Hills, N.J.) shot a 94 both days to place 50th. Classmate Sora Park (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) tied for 53rd place at 194, shooting a 94 on Sunday following a 100 on Saturday. First-year Sylvia Battye (Auburn, Ala.) placed 60th overall at 207, including a 99 on Saturday. Junior captain Andrea Hepfinger (Madison, Wis.) was Bates' fourth scorer on Sunday at 102.

The Bobcats will compete next weekend at the NESCAC Championship Fall Qualifier, hosted by Williams at Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass.
