HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates senior Jeff Spellman won NESCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors, announced Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, after he led the Bobcats to a 3-0 week including wins over Johnson & Wales, Bowdoin and Saint Joseph's (Me.).
Spellman (Boston, Mass.) led the Bobcats' 72-58 win at Bowdoin on Thursday with 21 points and 11 rebounds, his fourth career double-double. He also scored 18 points in Bates' 82-74 win at Johnson & Wales last Monday, and on Saturday he helped Bates defeat St. Joe's 84-69 with 14 points and five assists in 26 minutes of action. On the week he averaged 17.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
Spellman is the first Bates player to win the award since Marcus Delpeche '17 did on Jan. 30, 2017.
With 967 points in 69 career games at Bates, Spellman is poised to become the 34th member of the Bobcats' 1,000-points club.
Bates (5-1) returns to action Dec. 18-19 for the HoopMIA D3 Holiday Shootout in Miami, Fla. Bates will play Scranton on Dec. 18 at 8pm, and St. Joseph (Conn.) on Dec. 19 at 4pm.
