HADLEY, Mass. -- The Bates men's lacrosse team placed two players on the 2018 All-NESCAC Men's Lacrosse team in junior Rocco Fantoni and sophomore Matt Chlastawa, as the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its postseason lacrosse awards Thursday.
Fantoni (Hauppage, N.Y.) was named a First Team All-NESCAC defender, while Chlastawa (Westfield, Mass.) received Second Team All-NESCAC honors on attack.
Fantoni led the conference in caused turnovers with 37, eight more than any other player. He also collected 55 ground balls, ranking 14th in the NESCAC and third among non-faceoff men in that category. Twice this season he was named to the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's Division III Team of the week.
Chlastawa followed his remarkable, All-America freshman season with an even more productive sophomore campaign. His 97 points are 13 more than the second-ranked player in the conference, NESCAC Player of the Year Evan Wolf. Chlastawa scored 48 goals and tallied a conference-high 49 assists, smashing Bates' former team record of 40 established by Shane Kokoruda in 1992. Chlastawa now has two of the three highest point single-season point totals in program history, including his 53-goal, 32-assist rookie season.
