LEWISTON, Maine -- After he graduates from Bates College on Sunday, Burke Smith will have one more collegiate lacrosse game to play in, as he was selected to play in the NEILA East-West All-Star Game.
The game will take place at Penmen Stadium in Hooksett, N.H., at Southern New Hampshire University. Face-off will be at 6:30 pm and will feature some of the top graduating players from Divisions 1, 2, and 3.
Bates assistant coach Trevar Haefele will be one of the coaches of the East team, which includes Smith (Wilton, Conn.).
"The NEILA recognizes these terrific student-athletes for their accomplishments over their entire playing careers. To be selected for the East-West All-Star game means that you have been a star not just this year, but throughout your four years in New England collegiate lacrosse," said Tim Murphy, head coach of Curry College and coordinator of the East-West All-Star team selection.
A co-captain of the 2018 Bates men's lacrosse team along with Clarke Jones, Smith has played a key role for four seasons with the Bobcats, becoming a full-time starter in 2018. He has collected 23 goals, 16 assists, 135 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers in his career.
On Saturday he will be one of 46 Bates graduates to earn the Senior Scholar Award for four-year varsity athletes with a grade-point average of 3.50 or above, and on Sunday he will graduate from Bates.
