The Bates College softball team has big plans for its NESCAC doubleheader against Colby on Saturday, April 6. With games starting at 12 p.m., and 2 p.m., the Bobcats will be accepting donations for Lewiston's Trinity Jubilee Center. In addition, L.L. Bean's Bootmobile will be making an appearance at Lafayette Street Field.

"I came up with the idea because as our team's community liaison, I am always on the lookout for ways to help our team get involved with and help out the Lewiston-Auburn community," said sophomore Abra Kaplan. "I wanted to find a way to incorporate us helping out in the Lewiston area into a game somehow, and after talking with Civic Leadership Fellow Brie Wilson in the Harward Center, we came up with a toiletry drive to benefit the Trinity Jubilee Center, as it is an organization that does great work for people in need."

The Trinity Jubilee Center is looking for deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, soap and toothpaste. The center addresses unmet needs of underserved people in the Lewiston-Auburn area through collaboration with local, state, and federal organizations, as well as other agencies and churches. The center offers services that include a meals program, food pantry, outreach, a warming center, and refugee assistance.

The softball team has set up donation boxes on campus in Alumni Gym outside of the athletic training room, in Commons and in Pettengill. Donations will also be accepted at Saturday's games.

The Bobcats (4-13) travel to take on the Mules in Waterville on Friday at 4 p.m., for a NESCAC contest, before hosting Colby for the NESCAC doubleheader on Saturday.

"I hope that the Bates community will donate to our toiletry drive," said Kaplan. "It's a great cause for a great organization."
