LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Bates softball players Abra KaplanErin Murphy, Julia Panepinto and Danielle Polirer have been named 2019 Easton All-America Scholar-Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

All four student-athletes achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher in the 2018-19 academic year, thus earning a spot on the prestigious list.

"To achieve this kind of award is something special and goes to show our strive for excellence in the classroom and on the field is not mutually exclusive," Bates head coach McKell Barnes said. "I couldn't be more proud of these four and the entire team collectively for their successes across the board. We have a powerful group of young women leaders in the Bates softball program who are undeniably excelling here on campus and beyond."

Rising juniors Kaplan (Oak Park, Ill.) and Murphy (North Andover, Mass.) were both spring NESCAC All-Academic selections last season.

Rising senior Panepinto (Buffalo, N.Y.) is a two-time NESCAC spring All-Academic selection who was also named to the All-Sportsmanship team this past spring. She led the Bobcats in home runs (5), RBI (28), runs scored (22), doubles (8) and slugging percentage (.483).

Rising sophomore Polirer (Bellmore, N.Y.) earned a pair of victories in the circle as a first-year in 2019. She did not allow an earned run in back-to-back outings against the University of Southern Maine and the University of Maine-Farmington respectively, striking out six in five and a third innings to record her first two collegiate wins.

The Bates softball team qualified for the NESCAC tournament for the second straight year in 2019 and loses just one player to graduation entering the 2020 campaign.
